The 26.2 Foundation

The International Marathon Center (IMC) in Hopkinton

MarathonSculptureWhile a marathon ends at its finish line, 26.2 miles after the start, the cheers, pain and glory of distance running’s most prestigious race will go on forever at the International Marathon Center, which will incorporate a Marathon Museum and Hall of Fame.

With the marathon enjoying unprecedented popularity, both in participation and spectatorship, the time has come to create a central headquarters for the sport in the greater Boston area.

If you are losing faith in human nature,
go out and watch a marathon.
~Kathrine Switzer

The International Marathon Center will be a place to honor the sport’s storied past, celebrate its present, and inspire and educate the marathoners of the future.
Like the marathon itself, the creation of such a complex is no small task. But once completed, it will stand as a proud monument to the indomitable human spirit, the spirit that enables a human being to run for 26 miles and 385 yards.

The Sanctuary Space

The Sanctuary Space, created within the walls of the International Marathon Center In Hopkinton, Massachusetts, will be a place of lasting tribute to all who gave their efforts and energy to the safety and healing of those directly and indirectly affected by the bombing at the 2013 Boston Marathon.

It will be a place of solace and reflection for all affected by the tragedy.

It will be a compassionate place of memoriam to those whose lives were lost.

It is the intention of the 26.2 Foundation to render an intimate and honoring space where people from all over the world can come and feel kinship as a community of people who continue to both strive and care, no matter what the obstacles or consequences.
